New saga

Here’s the new Lono design and a slight change on Pira’s look. And at the bottom, it’s Josh’s tabby cat and he suggested me to turn her into an actual character for Spera. Josh’s Edit: This Lono design is intended only for winter comics.

I might twick on the design in the future. Feel free to give me suggestion.
Aaaaaaand
Over 44 artists (don’t forget those great pin-ups!), nearly 200 pages (if splitting the vertical comics counts), 10 months of site work and 1 year since I began writing the original novella — there is no question that Spera became a far larger project than I had ever dreamed it would be. The whole thing only functions because of the insane amount of collaboration involved. I remain utterly in awe of the amount of work everyone has poured into this project. Everyone should be proud.
All of the Part 4 segments have been completed and handed in! This means Joel Hentges will begin working on the site design. I’ll update this post when there’s an ETA. (Update: We’re working towards June 1st for Part 4’s release.)
Until then (as well as during and after) please enjoy the pin-ups that have been appearing in the Gallery section of the site. So far we have art by Afu Chan, Ingunn Dybendal, Bruma Gris, Hotcoffee, Matt Houston, Matt Marblo, Paul Maybury, Yana Moskaluk, Luke Pearson, Julia Scott and Mel Stringer. Everyone can feel free to submit a pin-up of their own — the more original and creative, the better!
I should also point out, for those not yet aware, that there is a deviantART group for Spera at http://spera-comic.deviantart.com/. If anyone didn’t receive an invite, let me know and I’ll send another. We also have a group on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Spera-Comiccom/208490082712
One last item for now: if anyone has an idea on how to promote Spera (without actively annoying people), please share it. I’m sure there’s quite a few people who would fall in love with Spera-Comic.com if they only knew about the project.
I thought I’d post a few versions of my first page. Yup, I actually did about four versions of my section - I think I must have OCD. Kudos to Josh for being patient with me!
The first version was mostly linework with a bit of tone. A few days after finishing my pages and sending them off, I decided I wanted them to be darker - then when I started adding more tone and ink, I realized it could do with a bit more detail as well. There were too many vast expanses of grey!
After another week I looked back at them and realized I wanted to colour them… I’ve never coloured comic pages before, but they were just asking for it or something. Then I realized everyone seemed to be leaning one way on the first page, and thought the composition would be better if I flipped the first panel.
I just can’t stop touching these pages dangit! Coming in Summer 2010… Kyla’s Spera Pages: the Movie.
